Does IKEA make made-to-measure curtains?
No: IKEA does not offer made-to-measure curtains. Its curtains come in fixed sizes, most often 250 cm high. Yet a curtain only blocks light, keeps out the cold and reduces noise if it covers the whole window: overlap on each side, hem touching the floor. A standard size never fits exactly. For that performance, you need a made-to-measure curtain, like the ones Kurtens designs and makes to your dimensions.
IKEA curtains come in fixed sizes
IKEA does not offer made-to-measure curtains. Its curtains and sheers come in a few fixed sizes. Most are 250 cm high, with a width of 120 to 300 cm (145 × 250 cm, 300 × 250 cm…), and a few blackout curtains are 145 × 300 cm. To adjust them, IKEA recommends shortening them yourself.
These sizes are designed to dress a window, not to shut out light, cold or noise.
What about other big retailers?
Most big retailers sell curtains in fixed sizes that you shorten yourself. Leroy Merlin also offers made-to-measure curtains, on quotation, made by partners. At Kurtens, you order directly from the manufacturer: you configure your curtain online, to the dimensions of your window, and we make it.
Why a standard curtain never does the job
Even when a standard size seems close to your window, it is not enough. A curtain only performs if it closes the whole opening, and that comes down to a few centimetres:
- At the sides. A technical curtain must extend 15 to 20 cm beyond the window on each side. Without this overlap, light gets in at the edges, cold air circulates behind the fabric, and noise goes around the curtain.
- At the bottom. The curtain must just touch the floor or rest lightly on it (floor-length or slight break). The smallest gap under the curtain lets light and cold air through.
- In height. Height is measured from your rod to the floor, and every home has its own. A catalogue size is either too short or needs altering.

A standard size that is “almost right” therefore always leaves a leak: at the sides, at the bottom, or both. It is the leak that decides performance, not just the fabric.
Kurtens made-to-measure curtains
- Your dimensions. The curtain is made to the width and height you order. Large sizes are possible too: beyond the width of the roll (270 cm), the panels are joined with a seam.
- A fabric chosen for the use. The 3-in-1 thermal and soundproof blackout (620 g/m², 3 layers, 100% blackout, up to −22 dB claimed by the brand), the single-layer blackout (315 g/m²) and the linen-look light-filtering fabric (265 g/m²).
- The fitting for your rod. 40 mm eyelets, pencil pleat tape, rod pocket.
- An option against measuring errors. The Exact-Fit Guarantee (€29.90) remakes the curtain if you got your measurements wrong, within 30 days.

How to choose
Use first. For total darkness, a 100% blackout fabric. Against the cold, a thick multi-layer fabric. Against noise, a heavy, dense fabric. The Kurtens 3-in-1 does all three.
Then the dimensions. Measure the width of your rod or track, add 15 to 20 cm of overlap on each side, and measure the height from the rod to the floor. Order at these dimensions: that is what turns a good fabric into a high-performing curtain.
How much does a made-to-measure curtain cost?
The price depends on the dimensions and the fabric. At Kurtens, the thermal and soundproof blackout curtain starts at €89 and the light-filtering one at €42. For an estimate based on your window, see our price guide for made-to-measure curtains.
Frequently asked questions
Does IKEA do made-to-measure?
Not for curtains: IKEA sells them in fixed sizes, such as 145 × 250 cm or 300 × 250 cm. For a curtain that blocks light, insulates and reduces noise, you need an exact size, with overlap and the right drop: that is the job of a made-to-measure curtain maker.
What curtain width for a 300 cm window?
Measure your rod first, not the glass. Add overlap on each side so the curtain covers the window well, then allow for fullness according to the fitting: gathered or pleated fabric takes up less space than it measures flat. For a 300 cm rod, you therefore start with a total fabric width well above 300 cm, split into one or two panels. The details, fitting by fitting, are in our guide to measuring your curtains.
What type of curtain lets you see out without being seen?
A sheer or a light-filtering fabric lets light through while blurring the view from outside during the day. At night, when the room is lit, the effect is reversed: more can be seen from outside. For privacy at night, you need a blackout fabric.
Do you need a fitter for made-to-measure curtains?
No, a made-to-measure curtain hangs like a standard curtain on your rod or track. Kurtens does not offer fitting; for a specific need, we can put you in touch with an independent installer.
Does Leroy Merlin make made-to-measure curtains?
Yes, according to its service page, Leroy Merlin offers made-to-measure curtains through partners, on quotation. Kurtens makes its own technical curtains (blackout, thermal and soundproof) and sells them online, with no middleman: you see the price straight away, from €42.
