Made-to-Measure Professional Curtains

Made-to-measure curtains for offices and open spaces.

One worker in five loses more than 30 minutes a day to noise in open-plan offices, which adds up to 120 hours of lost productivity per year per employee (IFOP/JNA survey 2024). Made-to-measure contract curtains reduce noise nuisance, regulate temperature and control light, with no building work and no structural changes.

Kurtens designs made-to-measure contract curtains for offices and open-plan spaces: acoustic insulation up to 22 dB*, thermal regulation up to 7°C*, blackout up to 100%*, M1 (French fire-safety classification) certification on request. Professional quote within 24h.

Why fit your offices with technical curtains

60% of employees report chronic fatigue linked to noise at work, and 50% suffer from stress amplified by their sound environment (IFOP/JNA 2024). In open offices, the INRS measures ambient noise levels of 50 to 60 dB(A), a threshold the World Health Organization identifies as the onset of non-auditory effects: difficulty concentrating, irritability, decline in cognitive performance.

Beyond noise, glazed offices concentrate other problems: summer overheating behind patio doors, glare on screens, lack of visual privacy in meeting rooms. Made-to-measure technical curtains address all three nuisances in a single installation, with no structural changes.

Unlike fixed partitions or heavy insulation work, a technical curtain goes up in a few hours. It adapts to space reconfigurations and fits the visual identity of your premises. For a fast return on investment in commercial buildings, it is the most flexible textile solution on the market.

Technical performance for the commercial sector

The performance of a technical curtain depends on the density and composition of its fabric. Here are the market reference levels to define the level you need.

Category Fabric density Sound insulation Thermal gain Blackout
Standard curtain 150 to 300 g/m² 5 to 7 dB 1 to 2°C 40 to 70%
Mid-range 300 to 500 g/m² 12 to 18 dB 2 to 4°C 70 to 90%
High performance 500+ g/m² 18 to 25 dB 5 to 7°C 95 to 100%

Kurtens produces in the high-performance category. Depending on your project, you choose the level of soundproofing, thermal regulation and blackout you want. Colors and materials are fully customizable to match your brand guidelines or the atmosphere of your premises.

Standards and compliance for offices

Offices that receive external visitors can be classified as public-access buildings (ERP). In that case, the fire-reaction requirements of the order of 25 June 1980 apply to curtains and drapes.

Space Minimum class required Reference
Enclosed stairwells M1 AM 12 a)
Escape routes (corridors, lobbies, circulation areas) M2 AM 12 b)
Public-access rooms > 50 m² M2 AM 12 b)
Private offices < 50 m² No specific obligation Not covered by AM 12

Note: article AM 11 prohibits placing drapes or curtains across escape routes (corridors, circulation areas, emergency exits).

For private offices not classified as public-access buildings (ERP), the Labour Code applies. Insurers and inspection bodies (Bureau Veritas, Apave, Socotec) may require fire-resistance class M1 or M2 even in spaces with no regulatory obligation.

Kurtens offers M1 certification on request for any project that requires it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about office curtains.

Which curtain should you choose to reduce noise in an open-plan office?

A high-density soundproof curtain (500+ g/m² category) is the most effective option for dampening conversations and ambient noise. Kurtens can produce curtains with sound insulation of up to 22 dB*, depending on the chosen configuration. In open-plan offices, track-mounted curtains let you create flexible zones with no building work.

Do office curtains have to be fire-resistance class M1?

It depends on the public-access (ERP) classification of your premises. In an office classified as a public-access building, fire-resistance class M1 is required in enclosed stairwells and M2 in escape routes and rooms larger than 50 m². In private offices under 50 m² that are not classified as public-access buildings, there is no regulatory obligation. Insurers may still require it, though. Kurtens offers M1 certification on request.

Can the colors be customized to match a brand's visual identity?

Yes. Unlike off-the-shelf curtains, Kurtens manufactures made-to-measure to your specifications: colors, fabrics and finishes are fully à la carte.

How long does it take to fit out a full office floor?

The schedule is set together based on the size of the project. Kurtens works around the operational constraints of your premises to keep disruption to a minimum.

Are samples available before ordering?

Yes. Fabric and color samples are available on request, so you can confirm the look before starting production.

Does a technical curtain replace an acoustic partition?

A high-density soundproof curtain significantly reduces noise (sound attenuation of up to 22 dB*), but it does not replace a solid partition for total insulation. Its advantage: it deploys in a few hours, costs less than a partition and adapts to space reconfigurations. It is the preferred solution when heavy building work is not an option.

Is there a minimum order for an office project?

No. Kurtens imposes no minimum order. Pricing scales down with volume, whether your project covers a single office or an entire floor.
