A standard size can be suitable if it covers the opening properly with the necessary overlap. Made-to-measure allows dimensions to be adapted when the available sizes do not fit; it does not guarantee better insulation on its own.
The Kurtens configurator lets you order to the exact dimensions. Standard sizes go up to 300x270 cm, which covers the most common patio doors. Beyond that, made-to-measure takes over. 270 cm is the width of the fabric roll, not an absolute maximum curtain height. The options depend on the combination of width and height. Compatible with sliding patio doors and French doors.
The curtain does not attach to the patio door. It hangs from an independent wall-mounted rod, installed above the patio door frame. The curtain falls in front of the patio door, and the patio door slides normally behind the curtain.
To open the patio door: push the curtain to one side (it glides along the rod), then slide the patio door as usual. The movement is simple and quick. Eyelets are the recommended heading for sliding patio doors: the curtain glides with very little friction. Pencil pleat also works well for a more elegant drape. See our heading guide.
For fixed (non-sliding) patio doors, the principle is the same: a wall-mounted rod in front, with the curtain falling in front of the glass. No mechanism constraints to worry about.
A dense technical curtain (up to 620 g/m²) weighs more than a decorative curtain. For a 300 cm patio door, expect around 5 kg. Plan for a sturdy wall-mounted rod with intermediate brackets every 100 to 120 cm. Telescopic rods are not recommended at these dimensions.

Does a patio door curtain get in the way of opening the sliding door?
No. The curtain hangs from an independent wall-mounted rod, in front of the door. The sliding door moves normally behind the curtain. To open it, push the curtain to the side (it glides along the rod), then slide the door open. The eyelets make it glide easily.
What curtain size for a 240 cm patio door?
For a 240 cm door, add 30 to 40 cm of overhang (15 to 20 cm on each side). You need a curtain about 270 to 280 cm wide. The standard 300x270 cm size works, or order made-to-measure to the exact dimensions. See our size guide.

Can you hang a curtain in front of a fixed patio door?
Yes, the principle is the same: a wall-mounted rod fixed above the door, with the curtain falling in front of the glass. With no sliding mechanism to work around, installation is even simpler. The curtain can stay closed permanently or be opened during the day, as you prefer.
Do you need one or two panels for a patio door?
A single wide panel offers good insulation (no gap in the centre), but it is heavier to handle. Two panels that meet in the centre are more practical if you open the door often.
