How do I choose my size?

Two measurements are all you need: the width of your rod and the height. Standard sizes or made to measure, to the dimensions you enter.

Total width = rod × 2 to 2.5 Window +15 +15 Height - to the floor + 2 cm (¾ in)
Measure with a rigid tape, on the left, in the centre and on the right: floors and ceilings are rarely perfectly straight.
1

The width of your rod

Measure your rod from end cap to end cap. Without a rod, allow the window width plus 30 cm (12 in), 15 cm (6 in) on each side. Fit the rod 15 cm (6 in) above the window. Order a total width of 2 to 2.5 times the rod: the full folds trap air and strengthen insulation. For two panels, divide by two. Enter the flat width of each panel: the configurator applies no coefficient.

2

The height

Measure from the top of the rod down to the floor. The curtains should just brush the floor, or fall 1 to 2 cm (⅜ to ¾ in) onto it for a softer, gentle break. Avoid letting them stop above the floor: the room looks smaller and draughts get through.

2× Recommended. Full folds, already a real barrier against the cold.
2.5× Optimal. Maximum air pockets, thermal insulation at its highest.

Exact-Fit guarantee. A measuring mistake within 30 days, and we remake your curtain free of charge. Order without fear of getting it wrong.

How does the 3-in-1 velvet work?

Three layers against the cold. On the window side, a gray quilted lining faces the glass. On the room side, a thick velvet keeps in the warmth. Between the two, a blackout layer.

Closed, it slows the cold from the glass and keeps the warmth of the heating in the room. It also blacks out the room.

How do I choose my fixing type?

The right choice depends first on your rod. Identify your setup, and the rest follows.

Choosing the right size

1. Measure the width of your window to find the ideal number of panels

2. Measure the height from the curtain rod to the floor to choose the length

3. Select the size and the number of panels you need

Your questions.

Is a thermal curtain really effective against the cold?

Yes, on two conditions: it covers the whole window, and it is closed when it is cold outside. It does not replace double glazing. It slows the cold from the glass and keeps the warmth in the room. The gain is greatest in front of single glazing or an old window.

Gain: up to 9 °C. In your home, it depends on the glazing, the exposure and the installation.

And with double glazing?

The gain is smaller. Recent double or triple glazing already loses less heat, and the curtain slows a smaller share of it. It keeps its two other roles: cutting off the cold air that flows down the glass, and blacking out the room.

Does velvet really insulate against the cold?

Yes. Its tight pile traps a layer of air, and still air insulates: that is why velvet feels warm. On its own, it is not enough, because the cold comes from the glass. Here, it is backed on the window side by a quilted lining, which faces the cold.

Is it really thick?

Yes. Three layers, each in its place: the tight-pile velvet on the room side, a blackout layer in the center and the quilted lining on the window side. Together, they make a curtain thicker and heavier than velvet alone.

Weight: 665 g/m².

Will it lower my heating bill?

We do not put a figure on savings on your bill: they depend on your home, your windows and your heating. For reference: in a house built before 1974, doors and windows account on average for 14% of heat loss (ADEME, 2026). A curtain only acts on that share, and only when closed.

What we do put a figure on is what the curtain does: up to 9 °C of thermal gain.

Is it effective in summer?

Closed during sunny hours, it slows the heat coming in through the glass, and the cool of the night stays longer in the room. In the evening, open it to air the room.

In summer too: up to 9 °C.

Is it blackout too?

Yes, as well. Thermal and blackout are two functions: one keeps in the warmth, the other stops the light. This one is thermal first. Closed, it also blacks out the bedroom.

Blackout: 100%.

What are the drawbacks of a thermal curtain?

It is heavy: plan on a curtain rod fixed to the wall. It only works when closed, and it must cover the whole window. It replaces neither double glazing nor wall insulation. It must not cover a radiator: the heat would stay behind it. In the morning, a little condensation may form on the glass behind it: open it and wipe.

Can I hang it in front of an entry door?

Yes. Same rule as for a window: the curtain rod extends 15 cm beyond each side, and the curtain is 2 to 2.5 times the width of the curtain rod. Check that the open curtain fully clears the doorway.

I'm worried about getting my measurements wrong.

Our 3-step measuring guide helps you choose the right standard size or enter your dimensions. And the Kurtens Exact-Fit Guarantee (€29.90) covers a free remake if you chose made to measure.

How do I care for it?

Machine wash, at 30 °C, delicate cycle, for both the velvet and the lining.

The warmth stays inside.

Product description

A deep, soft black with no blue cast. It frames a window with a clean line, sets off light walls, and the velvet keeps a gray sheen on the crests of the folds.

A black that keeps you warm

Toward the window, a gray quilted lining that takes the cold from the glass. Toward the room, a thick short-pile velvet that holds in the warmth. Two faces, each with its job: it is a thermal curtain.

It blocks light too. On the back, a velvet flap runs along both sides with orange piping. With eyelets, pencil pleat, rod pocket or triple pinch pleat, in standard or made-to-measure sizes.
